About NC Voter Protection Alliance

NC Voter Protection Alliance (“NCVPA”) is a new 501(c)(4) organization dedicated to protecting and strengthening North Carolina's election infrastructure. With a focus on administrative advocacy, legal strategy, and election infrastructure, we are building the power and pipeline necessary to ensure fair and accessible elections in North Carolina.

Position Summary

The Communications Director will drive NCVPA's communications strategy to elevate the organization's voice and impact. This role includes overseeing earned media, and working with a team to develop digital campaigns and paid communications to ensure consistent, compelling messaging aligned with organizational priorities. This individual will be skilled in media relations and communications strategy and will work across teams to help shape public narratives, engage reporters, and ensure visibility across platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and execute a multi-platform communications strategy.
  • Pitch and place stories in local, state, and national media.
  • Aid in the development of content for social media, digital ads, and print/earned media.
  • Support and coordinate rapid response communications around election administration decisions, board actions, and legal developments.
  • Work with partners to elevate stories that humanize the impact of election administration and voter suppression.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in communications, public relations, or political media.
  • Demonstrated experience securing earned media and managing communications campaigns.
  • Strong existing relationships with the North Carolina press corps, or the demonstrated ability to quickly build and maintain those relationships.
  • Strong writing, editing, and messaging skills.
  • Familiarity with the North Carolina political environment preferred.
  • Strong commitment to racial, economic, and gender justice.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment about when to elevate issues publicly and when to work behind the scenes.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $75,000–$80,000, depending on experience.
  • Full benefits package, including health, vision, dental, and PTO.
